Only 26 letters of English alphabets, hyphen (-) and numerical number can be used in domain. A domain can start or end with a hyphen (-) but it can contain one or more hyphen in midway. A domain name can be 63 letters long plus the gTLD (generic Top Level Domains, i.e, .com, .net, .org, .info) as part of the domain name. Each ccTLD (Country Code TLD) may apply its own restrictions on domain length and format. Domain names are not case sensitive so both lower and upper letters can be used to write a domain.
While both work together, domain name and web hosting service are two different things and they all work in different ways. Domain names can be purchased without web hosting. These domains are considered “parked” until the name domain (or pointer) is assigned to a web host.
